Most habitués of West Coast Choppers are shocked to find out that Jesse James's first customization wasn't a car, motorcycle or even a truck, but in fact a bicycle. As an innocent (maybe not so innocent) child in the 7th grade, future West Coast Chopper James "took" another kid's bike, customized it and sold it.
As the saying goes, "the rest is history." In 2001, two decades after that first custom bicycle, James had enough of a reputation as a chopper to be featured on the Discovery Channel's Motorcycle Mania I, Motorcycle Mania II and Motorcycle Mania III. His local fame was now a national phenomenon. With the debut of the television series Monster Garage, James's creations were on display for a world audience every week for an hour.
In its ten year history, West Coast Choppers shop became one of the most premier custom shops in the world. In its decade long existence, they have produced only two-hundred motorcycles. Its slow output of unique rides serves as a testament to James's commitment to his product. Despite the buzz and infamy surrounding the shop and the constant demand for West Coast Chopper, production methods remain the same. Each bike is designed and built from the ground up by Jesse James.
Unfortunately, for the millions of fans, the dream of owning an authentic West Coast Chopper will most likely never be realized. Even the rich and famous are given no quarter by James as he subscribes to a first-come, first-served policy.
Chin up bikers, there is an authentic West Coast Chopper you can get your hands on.
Much like it’s larger, engine powered cousin, the West Coast Chopper bicycle is an authentic West Coast Chopper shop creation. The closest thing to a production model a West Coast Chopper acolyte can hope for, the West Coast Chopper bicycle is produced by the legend-in-its-own-right bike manufacturer, Huffy. But to call the Huffy chopper anything but a West Coast Chopper would be an insult.
Huffy's line of West Coast Choppers, much like their inspiration, are often copied and imitated but never the same as the authentic bike. West Coast Choppers bicycles come from the same drawing board as their distant counterpart. Designed by Jesse James exclusively for Huffy, the West Coast Chopper bicycle is suitable for kids and adults alike.
